Angelina Elizabeth (Flood) Eglin was born on October 25, 1955 in Ft. George Meade, Maryland to Doreen Taylor Flood. Angel grew up in Greenbelt, Maryland with her mom and maternal grandparents, who lived across the court, and where she spent many happy hours helping her grandpa with his garden and helping her grandma bake. Angel developed her love of the outdoors with her mom as they spent many weekends camping all around the area.
In 1973, Angel became a proud member of the fourth graduating class of Parkdale Senior High School in Riverdale, Maryland. She attended the American University in Washington, DC, with several of her Parkdale friends before meeting her husband, Tony. Though her marriage dissolved, it did produce the love of her life, her daughter, Kathryn (Katie), whom she often said was the single best thing that ever happened to her.
The family moved to Oregon in 1990, where Angel and Katie have lived ever since. Angel discovered her second love when she started working as a classroom aide at Katie’s elementary school as well as teaching the children to swim, play soccer, hike and camp. They spent many happy days at Rock Creek, with Angel serving as the “pied piper” for however many of Katie’s friends they could gather.
Angel spent the bulk of her career at the Oregon Department of Human Services where she provided assistance to thousands of people in need as an intake coordinator for social services benefits. She was set to officially retire on February 1st.
As her last act of true service to others, Angel was an angel to others through organ donation. Please consider following Angel’s selfless lead and make organ donation your last act of service.
She was universally loved for her consistently optimistic outlook on life, despite that it handed her more than her fair share of curveballs. Angel always had a smile on her face and love in her heart for everyone with whom she came in contact. She especially loved the wonderful parade of cats that came through her life, anything Disney, and the Minions!
Contributions in her honor can be made to the Saving Grace Humane Society or a charity of your choosing.
A memorial service for Angel will be held in the spring.
