Fred L. Simmons

Please join Fred's loved ones for a celebration of life for him on March 22nd at 2:30 pm at the church where he met and married his wife Lisa 19 years ago. Any and all who wish to come are welcome. Located at Garden Valley Church, 3047 Garden Valley Rd, Roseburg OR. 

Fred passed through the veil and into the arms of Jesus his Savior on January 19th 2025 at 1 am with his wife Lisa sitting by his bedside and after enjoying a visit with many of his loved ones.

Born on March 8th, 1941 in Enterprise OR, to Lester and Louise Agnes (Cole) Simmons. 

Fred was the first born and only son of 7 children. His birth was followed by 6 beautiful sisters: Margaret Alma, Leslie Louise, Sandra Rose, Sharon Lee, Janet Sue and Agnes Annette.

Growing to a height of 6 feet 7 Inches tall, Fred was their "big brother" not only by birth order, but in stature as well. (Affectionately called her "little brother" by his Sister Sharon)

Fred married and had 2 daughters, LaRae (Rae) Simmons and Veronica (Ronnie Ann) Simmons and 1 son James (Jim) Simmons. They blessed Fred with 6 grandchildren who, in turn, blessed him with 8 great grandchildren. 

A mountain of a man, Fred worked hard, played hard and lived hard, until he had a life changing encounter with Jesus at the age of 42. Jesus radically saved him, spared his life and healed his body. God replaced the 42 years that the locust had eaten with 42 additional years which he used to tell anyone and everyone who would listen his testimony of what Jesus had done for him. He was always in awe that, in his words, "God would save the likes of him." 

For many years, Fred enjoyed riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles and was a member of Christian Motorcycle groups. He was an active participant in prison ministry with Bill Glass Ministries, riding with other bikers into various prisons and juvenile detention centers, to encourage and share his testimony to those inside.

Fred also proudly rode with the Patriot Guard Riders to show his respect and to honor the sacrifice of Veterans.

Fred had many careers during his almost 84 years and excelled at them all. Mechanic, Body and fender shop, Diesel mechanic, Heavy Equipment operator, environmental cleanup specialist, over the road trucker, dump truck and belly dump operator, husband to Lisa and follower of Jesus.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, 4 of his sisters and 2 of his devoted little dogs, Bear and Daisy Mae.

He is survived by his wife Lisa, 2 of his sisters, Leslie and Sharon, his daughters Rae and Ronnie Ann, his Son Jim, his grandkids and great grandkids, plus many nieces and nephews.

Goodbye my Husband. You are missed.
