Jill Anderson Obituary

Jill Alicia Wayman Anderson, 81, of Winston, Oregon passed away July 12, 2016, at her home. Jill was born April 12, 1935, Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph Emmanuel Wayman and Fern Lenore Thompson. She and her brother Jimmy grew up in Holladay, Utah in the home of her grandparents surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. She attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo where she met her handsome California boy Harold (Hal) Anderson her freshman year. They were married March 6, 1954 and were sealed for time and eternity in the LDS Mesa, AZ temple witnessed by Howard W. Hunter on June 18, 1955. She and Hal resided in the San Gabriel, California area as they worked various jobs to finish Hal’s undergraduate degree and welcomed their first three children to their union. Jill’s mother-in-law, Laura F. Anderson, was a great help to them during this time. In 1960, Hal was accepted to George Washington University Medical School in Washington D.C. where they spent four difficult but growing years and welcomed their fourth child. Next came Hal’s internship in Aurora, Colorado at the U.S. Army Fitzsimmons General Hospital, and the birth of their fifth and final child. Then, three years in the San Francisco area to complete his residency in internal medicine at Letterman General Army hospital and onto an overseas assignment in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War left the primary responsibility for the care of the children to Jill. During their overseas service, Jill organized a group of officer’s wives to entertain the wounded soldiers at the Camp Kue 500-bed hospital. After three and a half years overseas, they returned to the states to settle in Roseburg, Oregon in 1971. After raising her five children, Jill realized her life long goal of becoming a teacher by earning her Bachelors Degree in English from the University of Oregon in 1987 where she graduated cumma sum laude. She was a dedicated teacher and taught throughout the Roseburg and surrounding school systems until her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in 2015. Jill’s passions were family, learning, teaching, poetry, swimming in her pool, sailing, gardening and ranching. In recent years, Jill enjoyed serving with her husband as dedicated workers in the Medford Oregon Temple. She is survived by her husband, Harold F. Anderson, children Scott Anderson (Susan), Susan Tobiessen (Eric), Curtis Anderson (Coral) and Jeanette Facer (David), as well as ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved daughter Cynthia Lee Olson and infant son Bryan Harold Anderson. Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) Chapel in Winston, Oregon located at 340 NW Glenhart. Public welcome to pay your respects at 11am with services to begin at noon on Wednesday, July 20, 2016.
