William (Bill) Johnson Obituary

William (Bill) Hale Johnson was born April 5, 1949, in Onawa, Iowa and died at his home December 1, 2025, in Roseburg, Oregon.  He was preceded in death by his parents Robert William and Virginia Jean (Hale) Johnson.  Remaining to honor his memory are his wife of 30 years, Laurie, sons Bill, Randy, Ricky, Gary, and Christopher Mergen.  Also, stepsons Brandon Nogafsky, and foster daughter, Rebecca Louve Yao.  Also honoring his memory are his well-loved grandchildren (15), great-grandchildren (17), and great-great-grandchildren (4).

Bill was always a trusted, hard worker, starting his working life at the Tastee Inn and Out in Sioux City while attending East High School (Class of 1967).  Bill worked for several manufacturing companies in Sioux City and then managed shipping and loading operations at Zenith Radio prior to his relocation to San Diego, California.  In San Diego Bill was employed by Farmer Brothers Coffee (aka Custom Coffee Plan) where he worked in the restaurant division and then route sales.  He frequently was the top-performing salesman for Farmer Brothers.  Bill also supported his coworkers in a leadership role as the union’s representative for contract negotiations with the company.

Bill loved his family, always placing their needs first.  He was an avid car-lover and spent many hours restoring and maintaining vehicles for family, friends, and himself. His most significant car project was his 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix which he and son Chris rebuilt and restored to road-ready condition.

Bill loved the family pets and supported Laurie in her dog training and dog show activities.  He had life-long friends from every corner of his life and experiences.  He was a loving son, husband, big brother, and proud father.  He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.  A celebration of life will be held in 2026.  For additional information, please email Best4pets.laurie@gmail.com.
